Scott and I jumped out of bed eagerly (after a press of the snooze button), got dressed in our race gear and headed downstairs to get ready for our big day, another RACE day! A banana and dry cheerios for me..peanut butter toast for him. Mom arrived and we tiptoed into the kids rooms and carried them into their carseats. They immediately awoke, as they always do, and were happy and excited for the day to begin. No crabbiness here..that happens later in the afternoon :).
Despite the darkness and the early hour, the kids stayed awake and enjoyed the hour in a half ride to Bang's Lake in Wauconda. The weather was perfect..high 60's/low 70's, sunny and low humidity. After such a hot summer, this was such a welcomed relief. Once we arrived and put our bikes and stuff in Transition Area, we stopped to take a few pictures before Scott took the shuttle to the lake and I lined up for the Duathlon start.
Soon the gun went off for my Run start. 5K Run (3.1 miles), followed by 19K Bike (about 12 miles) then another 5K Run. Before I knew it (ha ha), I was coming home, thrilled to have beat my goal time by 7 minutes! Woot woot. My official time 1:50:02.
Scott also ROCKED the course. Man, he's so good!

We soon packed up our stinky selfs, our bikes and gear and headed home for a nice shower and a packing of the car.
Just hours after racing..we began our road trip, Vacation 2011 with a final destination of Charleston, South Carolina.
More to come...
