Happy 5!!!
Welcome to the advanced age of 5 months, little guy! You are loving the world, exploring it with your beautiful dark blue eyes and your tiny little hands. Eating makes you very happy as you are getting your first taste of food. Smiling, laughing and telling lots of stories is a full time gig for you right now and you can't get enough of your big sister...you just think she is the greatest thing that roams our house. You love to be cuddled (your favorite!) but also have taken a great liking to the jumperoo. Your hair..definitely turning into a blondie and is growing every day. I think this month you have grown more than the previous ones and your personality continues to emerge.

It's a Hard Knock Life
For Us......Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I LOVE You, Tomorrow....Your Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile...I Don't Need Anything But You!.....Little Girls, Little Girls....
Can you guess what I am referring to? If you are a girl, you surely know what these songs are to, right? Yessss....ANNIE!!!
ANNIE made a visit to Chicago and it was a girls afternoon in the city. Having been raised on the story, and now with MC adoring the little red haired girl, it was only fitting to bring her to the theatre to see ANNIE on stage. She was over the moon excited to wear her red dress, just like Annie, and adorn her ANNIE shoes, that the anticipation nearly got the best of her. With a twirl of her dress and a tap of the dance shoes, we headed to the Auditorium Theatre for truly a magical afternoon.
Makenna's eyes widened as we entered the Theatre...overcome by the sea of dressed up little girls and the excitement in the air. Of course, Nana had to find a special gift for her so we headed to the merchandise stand. MC thought Sandy needed a new owner, so Nana reached into her wallet for the purchase. A very loved dog he has indeed become!
Soon the house doors opened and we were seated to our very awesome seats. The show starts..and MC has her undivided attention on the stage. Annie enters..."Nana...look Annie!!!" So excited...she couldn't take her eyes off the stage. And when Sandy entered, I think everyone surrounding us heard her squeel..."Sandy..it's Sandy!!" So incredibly sweet. So much fun. I wish I could mentally tape it forever in my mind. Amazingly so, her enthralment lasted throughout much of the 3 hour show!
Makenna is still beaming in her ANNIE afterglow. Singing almost the entire song of "Tomorrow" and carrying her Sandy dog with her to play and to bed, she relives the day. Today and Tomorrow.
"Mommy..I want to go see ANNIE again!"
"I know sweetheart.....me too."
(Thank you NANA for a fun afternoon full of nostalgic memories! xoxo)

While the Daddy is away...
our sadness has gotten the best of us!
Makenna Claire is having a really difficult time with Scott being gone...she's carries her daily calendar count down sheet with her through out the house and wakes up crying saying.. "I miss Daddy". She somehow understands that this is different from his other travels, but she knows he'll be home soon and in the meantime enjoys talking to him each morning on Skype. Gotta love the internet!
And..., if there wasn't enough going on in our lives, a cold has hit our house. Hopefully I and Rylan with survive not getting it, although it's hard to see that happening since her little fingers touch everything and anything! Poor thing is coughing away and has drainage coming from many places!
Hope you feel better really soon baby!
Rylan stepped in to say hi to Daddy.

Rylan stepped in to say hi to Daddy.
And I hope you, Ry, stay as healthy as you are today!
Germs, germs go Away!!! In the meantime, I'll disinfect endlessly, with the hope...

Bangkok arrival and thoughts.
(Note: In spite of my promise to Kelly I was going to bed, I got out and walked a little bit before I get obligated into evening events for work. Don’t worry, sweetie, I’ll get plenty of sleep tonight still.) Below was written on the taxi ride in from the airport. It’s part musings, part ramblings, hopefully all entertaining travelogue.
The flight from Hong Kong was uneventful; Robert, one of my best friends as well as business associates has this unerring sense of direction and hosting. It’s so unerring he dropped me at the wrong terminal at Hong Kong airport. Thankfully the place was empty. We were already running late after a great lunch with his wife Jenny. They’re old friends who came to Kelly’s and my wedding almost six year ago. He swore he’d not come and visit for our anniversary because it’s too damn cold for his Hong Kong blood.
I sat next to a pair of Chinese lesbians. At least, I think they were. The one in the seat next to me could’ve been a guy, but I don’t think so. Even though the flight was only about two and a half hours, they managed to cram drink and meal service in for the whole flight. Everywhere you go in Asia they feed you on these international routes, even if it’s only an hour or so. The cabin crew moves like jackrabbits, that’s for sure.
The new airport in Thailand has been quite the debacle. We think we’ve got corruption in Chicago, but apparently the shady dealings associated with this one make Hizzonah look like a penny ante piker. The place is only three years old and it feels outdated; an homage to something that didn’t necessarily require a memorial. Lots of concrete. INSANE amounts of concrete. I think the former PM was in the concrete business. Not a coincidence.
I’m looking forward to the next couple of days. I can’t escape the feeling, though, that the folks here just look at Westerners and figure they’ve got license to have fun with them. By “fun” I mean overcharge. I think my trepidation or apprehension (I refuse to call it paranoia) is due to the fact that I can’t read their language, I obviously don’t speak it and given the economic climate of the place, you can’t blame folks for looking out for themselves and trying to make what they can WHEN they can.
Driving in from the airport which is so far out of town it makes Denver International Airport look like Meigs Field (moment of silence) for its proximity to downtown Chicago, I can’t help but be struck by the dichotomy of money and abject poverty. A dog was just walking across the intersection we drove through. There are fruit stands, gas stations and shantytowns. We passed what looked like a dumping area; a junk stand where construction remnants were left to be picked over by people looking to make or patch shelter. Now we go past somebody selling rugs that look like you’d find them at Pottery Barn or something like that; chances are they’re made here and sent there.
We passed a few temples. Or mosques. I think one was at least the latter because there were a host of Muslim-looking men clad entirely in white standing around on the balconies.
The traffic is impressively thick for a Sunday night; although without a point of reference for the normal ebb and flow of such things, I’m absent a point of reference. Motorcycles dart and weave between cars like flight-challenged insects. Buckets, kids clothing, necessities of life; staples for people who possibly subsist or exist, not necessarily thrive.
Two women on a motorbike. A pack of motorbikes. They’re everywhere simultaneously. Two-cycle stimulation that moves through your auditory peripheral range and is gone.
A pink Toyota taxi. Welcome to the tropics; dropped in a bipolar metropolitan setting.
Death before yielding. Ain’t rubbin’, ain’t drivin’.
The opening reception was this evening. Saw old friends; made new friends. The meeting promises to be a great time.
And now, off to bed. Must get a workout in tomorrow morning. Got some podium standing to do this summer.

Greetings from Hong Kong
UPDATE: Apparently I made the video private by accident and people could not view it. My bad. It's public now.
_______
I've safely made it to Hong Kong after a couple of very nice flights with Korean Airlines. I'm here for about 15 hours and then off to Bangkok tomorrow afternoon for a group meeting, but back here again on Thursday.
What I took time on the flight between Seoul and Hong Kong to carve up was some video from Gaga's new digital camera. Makenna spent last weekend with them and, of course, gave everybody some very cute footage to laugh at.
Photos later. It's way past my bedtime.
